When my almost 9-year-old daughter was very little, she found her favorite “lovie” among all the toys and dolls and blankets that she had – a little black & white dog that was a baby gift from a co-worker of mine. This dog went everywhere with her. He slept with her every night. He was the only one who could console her when she was sick or sad. As soon as she could talk, she named him Arfy. And she loved him so much that his collar, his nose and his mouth all wore off at some point. I restuffed him and sewed a new nose and a new mouth back on several times over the years.
At some point when she was little, I realized (with great anxiety and sadness) that we would be in serious trouble if anything ever happened to that little, fuzzy guy. I started searching the internet for a duplicate. Only there weren’t any anywhere! Sigh. I resolved myself to the fact that there was nothing we could do. And it was pretty much too late to rotate a new guy into the family.
Side note: The best advice I give to new parents is to figure out as soon as possible who their child’s favorite “guy” is and get at least one or two more of them to rotate through when their child isn’t looking!
This has become such an issue for us that a few years ago, we even started prohibiting Arfy from leaving the house other than for special sleepovers. There would be no way in the world that he would be allowed on the annual school trip to Wolf Ridge. We had to get a substitute lovie for those trips. None could ever replace him, but they would have to do for that one week.
Back in August of 2009, I found Plush Memories Lost Toys Service. There was nothing to lose, so I registered to find another Arfy. He was still nowhere to be found.
Literally yesterday (August 17, 2013), I got an email from Rosemary at Plush Memories. She had found one on eBay. What?!? I had pretty much forgotten about that. Over all these years, she was still on the hunt and tracked one down. Amazing. What a true blessing this ministry is to parents everywhere!
Well, I of course had to get it. But now I need to come up with a great story for my daughter about Arfy’s long lost twin brother who clearly was not loved nearly enough. I think she’ll love it.
Jesus said, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” Matthew 19:14

So glad we could help! But just to set the record straight, I’m not the only one who searches, We have close to 200 Fabulous Finders all over the world who search for the lovies people need help locating. One of them found your Arfy twin, passed the link to me, and then I contacted you. Plush Memories is truly a labor of love that many are involved in.
