So, I have an interesting relationship with social media. It’s new to me. And it’s a bit foreign to me. Funny thing is that I have never been an “early adopter” of anything, especially not social media. I was wearing clothing styles from the previous decade for way too long. And don’t even get me started on my hairstyles.
Here are the four (in addition to WordPress) that I now am thoroughly engaged with:
Facebook… I have to admit that I didn’t sign on until 2009. And even then it felt strange. FB always seemed to be a site for college kids, thus the popular movie Social Network. I keep FB personal and only link with friends and family. (If you are my friend or family and we are not already connected, feel free to send me a friend request.)
LinkedIn… I actually joined LinkedIn at the very beginning (2004 or 2005), but had no clue what it was or how to use it until a few years ago. It’s now one of my favorite sites for connecting with professionals, job searching, networking, and reading interesting articles. I primarily use it for business contacts and professional connections.
Twitter… Very late to Twitter. I honestly thought this would be a passing fad. Who in the world wants to hear about what a celebrity ate for breakfast or what your brother’s friend’s cousin’s son’s pet rabbit thinks about the latest news. Well, I gave in and signed up in December 2012. It’s been fascinating and curious and clever and odd.
Pinterest… All I can say about Pinterest is that it is addicting. I could sit in front of my tv watching movies all night scrolling through all the great pins. I have found some really yummy recipes and great craft ideas. Beautiful ideas for my dream house and great clothing styles. Fantastic places I’ve been fortunate to travel to and amazing places I can’t wait to see. I dig Pinterest and see it as a fun and guilty pleasure.
All that being said….I’m not on any of these as much as I could be, but who has the time?! As a mom and wife and friend and volunteer and professional…all these social media tools (and the dozens of other ones out there that I haven’t even dared to check into) take time. If you put in the time, you will reap the benefits of them. What is YOUR FAVORITE social media site?
